Bonnie Lowenthal, Board Member
Bonnie Lowenthal of Long Beach has been a long-serving elected official and is now a board member for the California High-Speed Rail Authority. She has served as a school board member, city councilmember and Vice Mayor prior to her election as a state representative. As a State Assemblymember she represented Long Beach, Signal Hill, San Pedro and Catalina Island. Her district included the largest port complex in the nation. She chaired the powerful Assembly Transportation Committee for 5 years, allowing her to build on her previous experience on the Metropolitan Transportation Authority and the Alameda Corridor Transportation Authority.
During her years as Assembly Chair, Ms. Lowenthal became an Ex Officio Member of the California Transportation Commission. She worked to create transportation opportunities in the State during the period of the great recession.
In 2013, Ms. Lowenthal was the only elected official in the nation appointed by Secretary Ray LaHood to the National Freight Advisory Committee. In 2014, her legislation created a state freight advisory committee charged with developing transportation planning for all goods movement in California.
Toni G. Atkins, Speaker of the Assembly, appointed Ms. Lowenthal to the Authority Board in January 2016.
