FRESNO, Calif. – Continued progress on building the nation’s first high-speed rail system and a strong partnership with the California construction trades union has helped the California High-Speed Rail Authority (Authority) reach another milestone, the creation of more than 14,000 construction jobs since the start of the project.

Progress on the high-speed rail project is the culmination of work between three design-build contractors including Tutor-Perini/Zachry/Parsons, Dragados-Flatiron Joint Venture, and California Rail Builders.

“We are excited to continue the relationship between the Building Trades and the Authority’s new CEO Ian Choudri,” said Chuck Riojas of the Fresno, Madera, Kings and Tulare Counties Building and Construction Trades Council. “High-speed rail is helping put people to work across the Valley, and that number and need of a skilled labor force will continue to grow.”

In California’s Central Valley, there are more than 25 active construction sites. In addition, 463 of 494 miles have been fully environmentally cleared for the high-speed rail project between the Bay Area and Los Angeles County.
