Map of CaliforniaWith renewed focus, clear project definition and achievable goals established, 2023 brought a year of historic progress to the project. In December 2023, in the most powerful display of federal support to date, the U.S. Department of Transportation (USDOT) awarded the Authority $3.1 billion in grant funding to continue progress on advancing high-speed rail in California’s Central Valley, bringing the total awarded to date under President Biden’s Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act (IIJA) to more than $3.3 billion.

Other progress and achievements since the 2023 PUR include:

  • 422 miles of the full 494-mile system have been environmentally cleared.
  • 13,029 construction jobs have been created.
  • 820 certified small businesses are working on the project.
  • We have maintained an excellent safety record and implemented a new, proactive construction quality model for increased structure inspection.
